Arena Breakout S13 "Liminal Space" Launches July 16! Full Breakdown of the Tactical Abilities System

First things first: this season’s Dark Zone feels different
If you’ve been playing Arena Breakout for a while, you’re probably used to the usual loop: enter the map, loot, fight, extract. The pace has always been fairly fixed. But in S13 “Liminal Space,” the devs have completely flipped the atmosphere of the game! The newly added Liminal Space visuals feel like a remote crossover with a Backrooms movie, giving players a seriously immersive experience.

From what we know, the development team drew inspiration from the sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic and SCP Foundation files. Adding supernatural elements into an originally realistic battlefield is honestly a very cool move. In the official words: this season doesn’t reward whoever shoots first, but whoever reads the battlefield faster.
Simply put, the era of winning by pure gun skill and brute force is over!
Now that we’ve covered the background of the Season 13 update, let’s take a closer look at the new surprises and content in S13.
Foggy Valley: visibility drops hard, sound decides life or death

The biggest map change this season is that the Valley map is now covered in thick fog.
[Key Changes]
● Visibility is greatly reduced, so long-range sniper “eagle eyes” are basically nerfed hard;
● Audio information is now more important than ever — footsteps, gunshot echoes, and ambient sounds are more reliable than your eyes;
● Close-range encounters happen more often, completely changing the flow of firefights;
[Practical Tips]
We strongly recommend playing with headphones and listening carefully — footsteps and reload sounds are now worth more than your scope;
Shorten your engagement distance and don’t force long-range holds;
Move with purpose instead of running around blindly;
On a map where you can barely see anything, make sure to use a suppressor. Otherwise, one shot can expose your position, which is a huge mistake. Of course, if your skills are strong enough, you can still play it your way;
Judging from the official data, the design direction of Foggy Valley is very clear: weaken the traditional sniper advantage and force players into close combat and teamwork. If you’re still using the old playstyle, it’s time to adjust.
Port map returns: nostalgia is nice, but it leaves next week
The long-awaited Port map has returned in S13, but only for a limited time. It is not staying permanently.
According to the info we found, Port went live on July 16 and is expected to be removed on July 23. In other words, you only have one week to experience it, so if you want to revisit it, hurry up!
[Why is it limited-time?]
The dev team has admitted that the old Port had design issues — confusing navigation, poor area connections, and low player engagement. This return feels more like a “farewell tour” before the map gets fully reworked.
If you have nostalgia for the old Port, or want to loot during the double-drop event, you can jump in and experience it today!
Tactical Ability system: 11-point budget for talents, playstyles are fully split
This may be the change that affects S13’s gameplay depth the most.
The system lets you equip up to 5 abilities before a raid, with a total budget of 11 points. Each ability costs between 1 and 7 points. You can stack several cheaper abilities for a balanced build, or spend big on one or two powerful skills to completely change your playstyle.
Confirmed ability categories:
| Category | Representative Ability | Effect |
| Intel | Ammo Estimation | Shows the approximate ammo remaining in the current magazine, a must-have for beginners |
| Survival | Tough Muscles | Automatically stops bleeding 60 seconds after being injured, extremely cost-effective |
| Mobility | Rat Mimic | Reduces stamina consumption while moving quietly, great for ambush playstyles |
| Combat | Titan | Lets you move in heavy gear as if it weighs nothing, widely considered one of the strongest abilities |
[Build suggestions for veteran players]
Heavy armor build: Titan (7) + Heavy Armor Expert (1) = 8 points. You can run in T6 heavy armor as if you’re wearing nothing;
Sniper build: Sniper Stand Lv.3 (5) + Temporary Map (3) = 8 points. Commit fully to long-range fights;
Medic build: Ambulance (3) + Field Medical (3) + First Aid Lv.3 (5) = 11 points. Teammates you revive will be back in fighting shape;
The biggest value of this system is flexibility: every player can adjust based on the map, playstyle, and current economy. Intel abilities shine in Foggy Valley, while combat abilities work better in Port.
[Double Drops: the golden window at the start of the season]
S13 starts with a double item drop-rate event across all maps.
This means: all material output is doubled + high-value items have twice the chance to appear within the same time + one successful extraction is worth two old runs!
For new players, this is a great chance to build up your economy quickly. For veterans, it’s the best window to push gear and refill your stash. We recommend running more raids during the event — don’t wait until it ends and regret it.
New weapon lineup: close-range combat is having its moment
S13 adds a batch of new weapons, most of which lean toward mid-to-close-range combat:
| Weapon | Type | Features |
| AA12 | Shotgun | Full-auto shotgun, dominant at close range in Foggy Valley |
| M1887 | Shotgun | Lever-action shotgun with high single-shot damage |
| SCAR-H | Assault Rifle | 7.62 caliber, high-damage suppression |
| SPC9A | SMG | High mobility, suitable for close fights in Port |
| T87A | Assault Rifle | Balanced performance at mid range |
Foggy Valley and Port both focus mainly on close-range combat, so a full-auto shotgun like the AA12 will be very strong in the new environment. Oh, and don’t forget the free melee weapon for the new season — the crowbar!

S13 “Liminal Space” has completely changed the gameplay logic of Arena Breakout — the fog makes it hard to see, the audio forces you to listen, and the talents make you think. Old habits like solo rushing, hard holding angles, and refusing to communicate won’t work well in this new environment.
Take advantage of the double-drop window and run more raids to get used to the new pace. Before Port is removed on July 23, remember to go in and loot at least once! This season isn’t about who has the sharper aim — it’s about who adapts faster~
