Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention to Valeri at first.
When the Version 7.2 beta news first came out, most people were focused on Mitya: a five-star Electro boy, the core of a new reaction system, with gameplay footage that looked unbelievably cool. As a four-star character featured alongside him, Valeri received noticeably less discussion.
But after taking a closer look at his material list, I noticed something interesting: Valeri is probably one of the most pre-farming-friendly new characters in recent versions. Other than the 168 new regional specialties, you can prepare every other material right now. Once the version goes live, you can max him immediately without waiting or being blocked by progression.
That is actually quite rare in Genshin Impact. In recent versions, new characters often require “new materials from a new map” or “weekly boss materials from a new boss,” making early preparation nearly pointless. Valeri is different. His materials are all found in existing content, so every bit of Resin you spend now contributes to his build.

Complete Valeri Ascension and Talent Material List
According to beta leaks, Valeri is a four-star Electro sword user who specializes in shield support. He can provide the whole team with damage bonuses and Elemental Mastery. When paired with his five-star partner Mitya, the setup is essentially “Mitya main DPS + Valeri dedicated support.”
To reach Level 90 and level all three talents to 10, you will need the following:

Mora deserves a separate note. The 7.1M total covers both ascension and talents: character ascension costs about 420,000 Mora, while fully leveling all three talents costs around 4.95M. If you only plan to max one core talent, the Mora requirement will be much lower. However, since Valeri is a support character, talent levels directly affect his shield strength and damage bonuses, so I recommend maxing at least his core talent.
The Only Material You Cannot Pre-Farm—168 New Regional Specialties
This is the only item on the entire list that cannot be obtained before Version 7.2 goes live.
Version 7.2 will introduce a new region, where Valeri’s regional ascension specialty can be found. Its name has not been reliably confirmed yet, so beta leaks consistently label it as “new regional specialty” for now. Based on past experience, collecting 168 of them will probably require two or three full farming routes. Teapot cultivation or joining other players’ worlds can speed things up.
My advice is to visit the new region and run the specialty route as soon as the update goes live. There is no need to rush your wishes first—mark the gathering locations and unlock nearby waypoints while completing world quests. 168 may sound like a lot, but it should only take two or three days. If you wait until after obtaining Valeri to start looking for them, the process will feel much more stressful.
Pre-Farming Priority—Weekly Boss First, EXP Books Later
Ranking materials by the logic of “anything missed cannot be recovered quickly,” the priority is as follows:
The highest priority is Forged Resin. Weekly bosses only allow one reward claim per week, and the requirement of 18 means it will take at least three weeks to reach the total. If you want to raise Valeri’s talents as soon as Version 7.2 launches, you should start farming the relevant weekly boss now. There is not much time left in Version 7.1, so make the most of every remaining week.
Next is Sky Patroler's Severed Tail. This is a regular boss drop with no weekly limit, so you could theoretically farm all 46 in one day. However, Resin is limited. Farming it early means you will not have to spend that Resin after Version 7.2 launches, when you will also need to farm artifacts, new regional materials, and the new weekly boss. You will not have enough Resin for everything.
Glory talent books come third. The 9/63/114 requirement is substantial, but the talent domain can be farmed every day, so starting to stockpile them one or two weeks in advance is enough. If your Resin has more urgent uses, you can farm these after Version 7.2 since they are not time-limited.
Voidrealm enemy drops and Electro boss materials can be accumulated naturally through daily enemy farming and regular boss runs, so they do not require special planning.
EXP books and Mora are purely a matter of stockpiling. 419 Hero's Wit and 7.1M Mora may sound intimidating, but if you regularly farm Ley Line Blossoms or keep your Battle Pass progressing normally, your reserves should be sufficient. If not, start farming Blossoms of Wealth and Blossoms of Revelation a few times each week. It should not be difficult to save enough before Version 7.2.
Is Valeri Worth Building?
Here is the conclusion first: if you pull Mitya, Valeri is essentially a must-build.
Based on beta information, he has a very strong connection with Mitya. Valeri provides a shield, a 20% damage bonus, and 120 Elemental Mastery, all of which directly support Mitya’s Star-Electro Conduct reaction team. Calling him Mitya’s dedicated support is not an exaggeration. If you do not have the Cryo Archon, Valeri can temporarily fill that role in the team.
However, if you do not plan to pull Mitya, Valeri’s value drops considerably. Four-star supports are generally less versatile than five-star supports. While Valeri’s shield and Elemental Mastery buffs are useful, they may not replace the existing support slot in other teams. That said, four-star characters are relatively inexpensive to build, so if you need an Electro shield support, building Valeri as a backup is still worthwhile.
As for obtaining him, Valeri will appear as a featured four-star character on Mitya’s Version 7.2 banner. The cost of obtaining a four-star is relatively manageable, but I do not recommend chasing a five-star banner solely for a four-star character. If you already plan to pull Mitya, Valeri will most likely come along the way. With good luck, you may even obtain Valeri’s C6 while pulling for Mitya.

Valeri’s role is actually very clear~
He is Mitya’s dedicated support, combining shielding, damage boosts, and Elemental Mastery in one package. His value in the Star-Electro Conduct team is beyond doubt. Being a four-star makes him relatively affordable to obtain, but you still need to spend the necessary Resin to build him.
The most convenient part is how friendly his materials are for pre-farming. Other than the 168 regional specialties, every point of Resin you spend now is useful progress. Farm the weekly boss first, obtain regular boss drops early, gradually stockpile talent books, and fill in EXP books and Mora based on your reserves. Once Version 7.2 launches, collect the regional specialties in the new area and you can max Valeri on the same day.
There is not much time left in Version 7.1, so start farming what you need now. If you wait until Version 7.2 opens and then scramble to find materials, you really will not have enough time!!!
