Identity V New Hunter "Heartbeast" Launches 8/18! Emil's Alienated Persona Revealed, Dual-Form Mechanic Unveiled for the First Time

Guys, the Patient mains are getting hit right where it hurts!
The new Hunter I cared about most from the summer version reveals, “Heart Beast”, Emil’s distorted persona, is officially scheduled to launch on August 18. After watching the PV and design files, I can only say one thing: Ada, what exactly did you do to Emil?
The Delphi experiment failed to cure Emil’s amnesia. Instead, it turned him into a half-human, half-wolf monster. Fear was erased, and the beast within awakened. Patient players will not be able to dodge this one.
Who is Heart Beast? Emil’s distorted persona, a monster born from Ada’s love

According to the official game setting, “Heart Beast” is the distorted persona of Patient Emil and a brand-new Hunter in Identity V’s IDENTITY series.
The story takes place during the period when Ada entered the Manor and first came into contact with the “Delphi” extract. Although the research team was already falling apart, at that stage everyone believed “Delphi” was a kind of “miracle drug” capable of soothing psychological trauma. Ada had hoped to use it to completely free Emil from his past suffering, but the experiment gradually spiraled out of control.
When fear and pain are forcibly erased, what follows is a massive spiritual void, and what fills that blank space in Emil’s mind is a darkness far beyond expectations. Stripped of fear, he gradually transforms into a dangerous being driven by instinct. At the end of the PV, Emil appears to be shot dead by a hunting rifle. “The flowers Ada gave Emil had already hinted at their tragedy,” and Patient players in the comments are already shouting, “Emil is never coming back!!”
According to community information, the name “Heart Beast” comes from Nobel Prize in Literature winner Herta Müller’s novel The Land of Green Plums, whose original Chinese title is Heart Beast. The novel explores the mental alienation of individuals under oppressive environments, forming a literary parallel with Emil’s experience.
In terms of visual design, his human form retains the straitjacket, treatment headband, and ring at his neck, which serve as Emil’s only marker of humanity and spiritual anchor. However, his body is covered in heavy restraints and spike needles used as a final defensive measure. In beast form, he breaks free from all restraints, his hair spreads like a mane, claws and fangs are exposed, and his stance is no longer withdrawn and timid, but upright, cold, and predatory.
Dual-form skill mechanics: Identity V’s first “fury value” driven Hunter

The core mechanic of “Heart Beast” is passive switching between two forms. It is Identity V’s first attempt at a Hunter driven by a “fury value” system. The design concept is that human form handles scouting and resource buildup, while beast form handles chase pressure and burst damage.
Form-switching mechanic comparison:
| Comparison | Heart Beast | Geisha / Wu Chang |
| Switching method | Passive accumulation (madness / sanity value) | Active skill |
| Control level | Low (depends on behavioral feedback) | High (decided by the player) |
| Form relationship | Human / beast represents the struggle between humanity and savagery | Active switching |
Human form (scouting form):
Slow movement speed, halved attack damage, and poor recovery speed, making it an obviously weak state;
Perceptual Overload: makes it easier to sense Survivor positions through hypersensitivity;
Accumulate madness value: movement, taking hits, and attacking build madness value. Once full, he automatically switches to beast form;
Beast form (chase core):
High mobility and varied attacks: skills can be switched frequently based on chase situations to create multiple combo-based pursuit patterns
Two-stage special basic attack: behaves similarly to two consecutive pounce-style zigzag movements
Stacking damage-boost marks: consecutive skill hits can deal more damage
Sanity value mechanic: in beast form, movement and taking hits build sanity value. Once full, he returns to human form, though attacking suppresses sanity value growth
Duration: affected by the number of Survivors. The more Survivors there are, the harder it is to return to human form
Special interaction (story linkage): when Psychologist Ada is present, Heart Beast’s human-form movement speed and recovery speed increase, and beast-form sanity value builds faster. However, if Ada pallet-stuns him, his sanity value drops sharply, extending the beast transformation duration. This linkage makes “Ada pallet-stunning him” a very conflicted choice: dropping the pallet extends beast time, but not dropping it makes it harder to limit his human-form scouting.
Practical gameplay ideas and execution difficulty
The core logic for playing Heart Beast is simple: “endure” in human form, “rush” in beast form.
Do not rush to attack during human form. Damage is halved and efficiency is extremely low. Use the vision-like information from “Perceptual Overload” to gather intel, and quickly build madness value through movement and taking hits. Keep pressure on Survivors so they cannot decode safely.
Beast form is the real harvest window! Use high mobility and the two-stage special basic attack to chase. Consecutive skill hits stack damage-boost marks and create a snowball effect, but remember to watch sanity value buildup. Timely attacks can delay the return to human form.
In terms of execution difficulty:
High learning curve: you must precisely manage the trigger conditions of both forms and cannot instantly respond to sudden situations;
Human form is clearly weak: slow movement, halved damage, and extremely low room for error;
Risk of losing control due to passive mechanics: without understanding the passive system, it is easy to end up “scraping in human form and crashing around in beast form”;
Choose carefully: if you have not already mastered at least one high-skill Hunter, such as Geisha or Sculptor, Heart Beast’s passive switching mechanic may cause frequent loss of control in real matches and create frustration. Safer choices remain Geisha or Wu Chang.
A new Hunter full of mind-game depth
“Heart Beast” Emil is another narratively charged character in Identity V’s IDENTITY system. His dual-form mechanic brings a new layer of mind games to matches: human form is weak but can scout, while beast form is strong but requires buildup. For Hunter players, whether you can precisely control the rhythm of form switching will directly decide the direction of a match. After his official launch on August 18, we will likely see this “monster whose fear was erased” appear in ranked matches very soon.
