The two gem types and why getting this wrong costs you pulls

NIKKE tracks two separate gem pools. They look the same in your wallet but behave completely differently.

Free Gems come from daily missions, login bonuses, event rewards, and promo codes. They work for standard pulls and most shop purchases.

Charged Gems come from real money only. The critical thing about Charged Gems is that the New Commander Special Recruitment banner — the one that guarantees at least two SSR units per pull set — only accepts Charged Gems. That banner is the highest-value use of paid currency in the game. Using Charged Gems on any other banner is mathematically worse.

So the spending order is: Monthly Pass first to build your Charged Gem stack, then New Commander Special Recruit to spend them. Not the limited banner. Not the standard pool. New Commander first.

Pack rankings by actual value

This is based on Prydwen's spender guide data and community testing. The value score shows how much you're getting relative to the standard gem pack rate.

Monthly Pass — $4.99 — Value score 667

330 Gems upfront plus 100 Gems every day you log in for 30 days, totalling 3,300 Gems. At roughly $0.45 per pull, nothing else in the shop comes close. Prydwen calls it the best purchase in NIKKE. If you skip this every month and buy raw gems instead, you're paying four times more per pull for the same currency.

One catch: you have to log in daily to get the full value. If you're going through a period where you won't touch the game, don't buy it that month.

Mission Pass — $19.99 — Value score 600

25 Recruit Tickets, 50 SSR Shards, and a limited skin. The value is real — the general community consensus is that only the Monthly Pass and Mission Pass are actually worth buying in NIKKE's shop, and everything else is more situational.

The way to use this: buy it on months where you like the featured skin. Even without the skin the numbers work, but the skin is what tips it from "decent" to "obvious."

Campaign I — $19.99 — one-time

10,000 Gems total as you clear the first ten campaign chapters. Huge value for new accounts. If you're past chapter 10, this ship has sailed — you can't retroactively claim it.

First Purchase Bonus — applies to all gem tiers

Every gem pack denomination has a first purchase double on fresh accounts. The $79.99 pack becomes 12,400 Gems. The $29.99 pack becomes 4,600. This bonus is tied to your account history, not where you buy — purchasing through Kardz at a discount still triggers it.

If you're going to make one significant gem purchase ever, use the first purchase bonus on the largest denomination you can actually afford. Don't blow it on the smallest tier just to test the system.

Raw Gem Packs — last resort

No bonuses beyond the listed amount. The cost per pull on raw gem packs runs between $1.94 and $4.00 depending on denomination, versus $0.45 on the Monthly Pass. These only make sense when you're short on gems right before a banner closes and there's no better option available.

What to buy based on how much you spend

F2P: Don't spend anything, but don't skip promo codes. The 3.5 Anniversary gave F2P players somewhere between 130 and 166 free pulls. During anniversary events, F2P accounts can genuinely compete for limited characters without spending — the key is saving gems for those windows instead of pulling on permanent banners.

$5-20/month: Monthly Pass every month, nothing else. That's 3,300 Gems a month at $4.99. At this spending level, adding anything on top of the Monthly Pass has significantly diminishing returns.

$20-100/month: Monthly Pass locked in, Mission Pass on months where you like the skin, and event-exclusive packs when a banner you care about has them. Event packs during anniversaries often beat everything else on value — 50% bonus content is common.

$100+/month: All of the above, plus NIKKE Master IV when it's available ($99.99 for 8,000 Gems, 30 Advanced Recruit Tickets, 50 SSR Shards, and a T9 gear selector). At this spending level, third-party platforms saving you 20-28% on bulk orders starts to actually matter in dollar terms.

Pity: the numbers you need to know

Hard pity in NIKKE is 200 pulls — 60,000 Gems. At 200 pulls, you get the featured character guaranteed via Gold Mileage Tickets.

The SSR rate is 4% base with the featured character at 2% rate-up. Soft pity starts kicking in between pulls 60-80, so the statistically efficient zone for continued pulling is in that range.

Gold Mileage Tickets don't expire between banners, which means you can spread 200 pulls across multiple banners over time. This is the mechanic that makes NIKKE's pity system more forgiving than it looks on paper.

One thing that catches people: Advanced Recruit Vouchers from the shop don't generate Gold Mileage. Only direct gem pulls do. If you're tracking pity toward a guaranteed unit, vouchers don't count toward that number — factor that in before deciding between shop items and direct pulls.

Free Gem sources worth actually tracking

Daily missions are the baseline. Don't skip them.

Promo codes are the most underused free resource in the game. As of mid-2026, active codes were giving out 30+ Advanced Recruit Vouchers and around 900 Gems — that's 20+ free pulls from codes alone. Anniversary events are when F2P accounts should be pulling. The gem income during these windows is dramatically higher than normal. Saving your stack for anniversary banners instead of spending on regular limited banners is the single biggest F2P decision you can make.
