The hilarious scene from the 3.2 story where Fionn was wearing a cardboard box on her head before Xixiufu headbutted her into the bushes has barely left our minds, and the official announcement of her Version 3.3 release is already here. And she is not coming alone—Severian is joining her too. He is Seth's older brother, a senior order inspector in the Public Security Department's Urban Order Division, and the man whose Black Branch file repeatedly says in the largest bold red font: “Avoid conflict with him.”
One is an “immortal” adjudicator so frail she may faint at any moment; the other is a Wind greatsword main DPS known as the “true demon.” Calling this the most dramatically contrasting double S-rank banner in Zenless Zone Zero this year would not be an exaggeration.
For anyone who has not been following the details, here is the timeline. Version 3.3 is expected to launch on October 21. Following Zenless Zone Zero's usual six-week version cycle, Fionn should be in the first half and Severian in the second half. Fionn—The Final Piece of the Fire Anomaly Puzzle?
Fionn Leifaella is an adjudicator of Kamps's Black Branch and a limited S-rank Fire Anomaly Agent.
Let's start with her character concept, because she may be one of the most absurdly entertaining characters Zenless Zone Zero has introduced in recent years. Her official profile includes lines such as: “Standing is a little tiring. Can I sit down?”, “Today's weather… seems perfect for fainting on the roadside,” and “I brought three glucose tablets; the emergency number is on speed dial.” It is hard to imagine someone who says things like this being the second-strongest fighter in Black Branch. According to Zhao, “No one in Black Branch can beat her except the boss.” A frail girl who could collapse at any moment is somehow the organization's second-best combatant······the contrast is off the charts.
What I find even more interesting is her core premise. According to her Agent Profile, an experiment report states that the subject cannot “die.” Whenever her vital signs decline, her body automatically draws on accumulated Ether Energy and enters a state called “Transcendence.” Her English name is Phoenix, while Leifaella is derived from Raphael, the healing angel. The message is clear: she may look hilariously helpless in the story, but she is absolutely terrifying in combat.
In terms of mechanics, current community discussions and leak information point to a character built around Burn Anomaly and a resource called “Ember.” Her Basic Attack and EX Special Attack count as Burn attacks and restore Ember on hit. Holding Basic Attack consumes Ember to unleash a high-multiplier “Anomaly Release,” with extra CRIT DMG for critical hits. When her Ultimate hits an enemy affected by an Anomaly, it triggers a settlement and immediately detonates the corresponding Attribute Anomaly DMG. If these leaks are accurate, she will be a complete Anomaly settlement engine.
Her team almost writes itself: Remiel + Velina + Fionn. Remiel's Anomaly team has always been missing a Fire piece. Burnice is usable, but she is ultimately an A-rank Agent, so her ceiling is limited. As a limited S-rank Fire Anomaly Agent, Fionn is very likely the piece that finally makes the “Anomaly battleship” take off. Players testing her in the community report that Fionn provides a “massive” improvement to Remiel teams, with 0+1 recommended as a starting point.
Severian—The First Wind Attack Main DPS and the Value of a Greatsword Inspector

He may be one of the characters Zenless Zone Zero players have heard about without actually seeing for the longest time. Seth first mentioned his brother in Version 1.1. Severian officially appeared as an NPC in Version 2.6, where he became Xisia's superior. It took until Version 3.3 for him to finally become playable, which is quite a wait.
He is a limited S-rank Wind Attack Agent and Zenless Zone Zero's first Wind Attack main DPS. He wields a huge greatsword, making him the first Agent in the game to use one.
The official descriptions of his combat ability are extremely exaggerated. Xixiufu calls him “the true demon.” Black Branch handles his file by writing “Avoid conflict with him” three times in the largest bold red font. Wait—a Public Security inspector is so terrifying that an inspection organization directly affiliated with TOPS is afraid of him? There is definitely something behind this setup.
Zhu Yuan's perspective is even more interesting. She says that when everyone goes out on fieldwork, Severian quietly waters the tomatoes and plants she shares with Qingyi. A man everyone treats as a demon secretly waters flowers behind the scenes. Paired with Fionn's fragile constitution, the character writing for these two Version 3.3 Agents is genuinely impressive.
According to the leaks, his combat style focuses on Dodge Counters as a Wind main DPS, earning him the nickname “the ancient Greek god of Dodge Counters.” He can summon Public Security subordinates to provide support during skill animations, with interactions involving Seth, Qingyi, and Zhu Yuan. However, Wind Attack is currently a brand-new archetype, and its supporting units and Stun options have not caught up yet. His immediate performance may therefore be limited by the depth of the available roster.
Pull Priority—Who Should You Get First?
This is the question many players are struggling with right now. My recommendations fall into three situations:
First: You already have a Remiel + Velina Anomaly team framework. In that case, Fionn has extremely high priority. She is the piece that turns the team from “playable” into “complete.” Players have been waiting a long time for a Fire Anomaly slot, and Burnice is ultimately only a transitional option.
Second: Your account is missing Wind characters, or you already play Seth/Zhu Yuan teams. Severian is worth considering. However, be prepared: Wind Attack is a new archetype, so he may be a “future potential” character. His current strength depends on his test-server numbers, and until dedicated supports arrive, his ceiling will be held back.
Third: You have limited Polychromes and can only choose one. Based on community feedback, Fionn has higher immediate value. The reason is simple: Remiel's Anomaly team is already established, so Fionn is a direct upgrade; Severian is a pioneering unit for a system that has not been fully built yet. In short, Fionn can be used immediately, while Severian may require some waiting.
As for their signature W-Engines, there is no need to rush. Start with the base Agent at M0, see how they perform in actual combat, and then decide whether to pull the W-Engine. Version 3.4 is also rumored to include major updates, so save your Polychromes carefully.

Now let's talk about resources. There is roughly a month of time left to save Polychromes before October 21. With daily missions, events, and Shiyu Defense, free-to-play players should be able to save roughly enough for one soft pity. If you want both Fionn and Severian, the pressure will definitely be considerable.
However, Version 3.3 will also feature a Halloween-themed event and a brand-new boss battle, so the number of obtainable Polychromes should be slightly higher than in a normal version. Combined with the rewards from the third season of “Bagel Action,” the overall benefits should be fairly decent.
My personal advice is to secure Fionn first, then decide whether to pull Severian based on how many Polychromes remain. If Fionn loses the 50/50, Severian will probably have to wait for future event income. If Fionn arrives early, you will have a much more comfortable budget for Severian.
