Identity V "Earth Official Pardons Sins" launches, with a new map event opening simultaneously.

On August 27, the day of the Ghost Festival, Identity V rolled out three things at once—Wu Chang's first gold skin "Earth Official Pardons Sins" from the "Ghost Stories" series and the purple accessory "Town-Suppressing Coin," the new Impostor map "The Notorious Manor," and a limited-time event. All three dropping on the same day makes for a pretty tight schedule.

Overseas players may not be familiar with the "Ghost Festival" and "Black and White Impermanence," so here's a brief explanation:

The Ghost Festival, falling on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, is an important traditional Chinese day for honoring ancestors and remembering the departed. According to Chinese folk belief, on this day the "gates of the underworld" open wide, allowing spirits to briefly return to the living world to reunite with their families. The Black and White Impermanence are the most well-known "underworld emissaries" in Chinese mythology—they are responsible for capturing souls and rewarding good and punishing evil, serving as the "civil servants" connecting the human world and the netherworld.

Once you understand these two things, you'll see why Identity V chose August 27—the Ghost Festival, which also happens to be Wu Chang's anniversary—to release this skin set inspired by the Black and White Impermanence. The timing and cultural symbolism are both spot-on.

This post will clearly lay out the skin design, practical impact, how to choose between Fragments and Echoes, the new map gameplay, and event rewards all in one go.

Core Update: Three Things Launching on the Same Day

After maintenance on August 27, the following content will go live simultaneously:

Skin Design Analysis: Black and White Impermanence Returns to the Essence of Soul Reapers

Theme Concept

"Earth Official Pardons Sins" is the first skin in the "Ghost Stories" series, named after the Taoist folklore of the Earth Official pardoning sins, echoing the legend that on the Ghost Festival on July 15, the Earth Official judges good and evil and absolves the sins of the departed. According to the official design philosophy, this skin returns Wu Chang to the image of "Soul Reapers" as the Black and White Impermanence—"netherworld civil servants walking between the realms of yin and yang, carrying out the mission of upholding justice and capturing evil spirits."

Xie Bi'an (White Impermanence): Overall elegant and solemn, with a pale complexion, portraying an official who guides kind souls. The official hat is engraved with "May You Meet Wealth," the waist badge bears the character "Xie," and the ear ornament is engraved with "Keep Away."

kardz_news_dwrg082512.jpgFan Wujiu (Black Impermanence): Leaning toward the fierce god image from traditional murals—with red hair and a blue face—exuding a commanding presence, responsible for capturing evil spirits. The official hat is engraved with "Peace Under Heaven," the waist badge bears the character "Fan," and the ear ornament is engraved with "Keep Silence."

A design of copper coins strung together with red cords, worn across the face—widely praised by players as a groundbreaking design that "instantly elevates the skin to god-tier."

Skill Effects (In-Game Impact)

Fan Wujiu (Black)Surrounding AuraTalisman-paper swirling effects, combined with red hair and black attire, reinforcing a commanding and awe-inspiring presence

The fake umbrella array features red cord tethering effects, while the bell-ringing effect appears in talisman-paper form, echoing the overall Taoist ritualistic aesthetic.

Impact on Gameplay: The skin itself does not change skill values, but the visual clarity of the effects can affect your decision-making during gameplay—the Tai Chi Bagua and talisman-paper effects are highly distinguishable, and the visual contrast between the Black and White forms is more pronounced than the original skin, making it easier to quickly identify your current form in chaotic fights.

Fragments vs Echoes: How to Choose for Maximum Value?

Pricing Reference: Limited-Time Outfit costs approximately 2888 Echoes / 12888 Fragments; Exclusive Accessory costs approximately 1068 Echoes / 3888 Fragments.

Situation

Recommendation

If you have enough FragmentsExchange directly with Fragments; save Echoes for limited-time essences or exclusive packs.
If you don't have enough FragmentsPurchase with Echoes during the first-week discount period—it's cheaper than afterward.
If you're a little short on FragmentsKeep an eye out for whether the "Fragment Gift Pack" (1888 Fragments / 160 Echoes) returns that day.
If you're still undecidedThe skin is permanently available in the shop and won't be removed, so you can wait to see the in-game effect before deciding—but remember to grab it during the discount period if you want it.

New Map "The Notorious Manor": A Major Upgrade for the Impostor Mode

kardz_news_dwrg082507.jpg

The new map will go live simultaneously after maintenance on August 27, introducing a time system and a variety of new mechanics for the first time:

Time System: Track the passage of time through clock readings and changes in sky brightness. Detective faction members have a chance to trigger double deduction rewards when completing performances at night; Impostors can trigger limited-time emergency events during different time periods.

Hiding Lockers: Accessible to both the Impostor faction and Detectives with the Lockpick identity. Impostors can lock onto targets inside lockers to perform "Locker Kills," while Lockpicks can lock the lockers from the outside.

Impostor Secret Letters: Multiple secret letter spots are placed throughout the map, visible only to Impostors. They can leave or read letters for covert communication within the faction.

Hunter "Nightmare": Interact with it to have a raven teleport you to a random location in the manor.

Chandelier Traps: Impostors can control certain chandeliers to drop, eliminating all players within range.

Emergency Events (Two Types):

● Masquerade Carnival: All players transform into identical masked figures, making numbers unrecognizable; the effect ends automatically after a set duration.

● Feast: Players must go to designated mission points to complete "Feast" tasks; otherwise, they cannot continue fulfilling deduction requirements.

Impostor Game Limited-Time Event

Launching simultaneously on August 27:

Free Rewards: Complete tasks to earn graffiti and other rewards for free.

Unlock with 688 Echoes: Exclusive outfit "Weeping Clown - Fool's Folly" — gradually unlock emotes, universal personality action unlock cards, 100 Inspiration, and more.

Timing for Purchase

August 27 is Wu Chang's anniversary—logging in that day may bring extra anniversary rewards or story easter eggs, so it's worth keeping an eye out. The Wu Chang skin is permanently available in the shop anyway, so there's no rush—wait to see the in-game effect before deciding. But if the first-week discount is active, remember to grab it within that period.
